  • Blue Point Substation and Boater Safety

    LOCATION:

    Phoenix, Arizona

    PROJECT DETAILS:

Arrington Watkins was contracted by Maricopa County to design three individual modular units to house the Blue Point Substation and Boater Safety. This project underwent several phases to provide the County with a facility that was not only functional for their needs but also cost effective. The original proposal was to design three individual modulars to house the different units. After analyzing the county's proposal it was determined that a more functional facility could be provided by design one monolithic modular instead of three. After hard bidding this modular package, it was determined that modular construction would not be cost effective. It was decided that an alternate delivery method would be needed to complete the project and a CMAR was selected. After bringing the CMAR on board, the entire package was redesigned utilizing masonry and a wood roof structure.

  • Houston Southern Command

    LOCATION:

    Houston, Texas

    PROJECT DETAILS:

It was the goal of the Houston Police Department to implement "Neighborhood Oriented Policing (NOP)". Toward that end, a prototypical plan was developed for five command stations which were specifically designed to support the NOP programs. The Southeast facility became the prototype for the future facilities. Design has been completed for three of these facilities and two have been constructed. The Command Station is a 195,000 square foot complex which includes police administration, patrol service, investigative services, police training facilities, crime analysis, crime lab, armory, physical training facilities, staff support and locker facilities. The complex also includes facilities for property storage, evidence storage, secure large vehicle storage, vehicle maintenance, auto body and painting shop facilities, vehicle fueling and car wash, and facilities maintenance. Housed within this complex is a 160 bed jail facility, juvenile holding area, DUI testing facility, 2 municipal courts including a special arraignment court equipped for video arraignment, county clerks offices, Harris County pre-release services offices, and public conference facilities. Lynn Arrington served as a consultant to two Houston architectural firms. He was responsible for the programming, master planning, concept planning, the design and specification of security and detention systems and vehicle maintenance equipment, construction observation, project start-up training and punchlist preparation.
